NTPC partners with SEforALL to enhance clean energy transition

Indian energy provider National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has partnered with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to aid its shift towards clean energy solutions.

The collaboration is set to create a detailed energy transition roadmap that aligns with India's energy security and commitments to net-zero emissions.

Sustainable Energy for All CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Damilola Ogunbiyi stated: “India continues to show climate leadership on the global stage, moving beyond commitment to concrete actions while demonstrating that the energy transition in emerging countries can co-exist alongside economic development.

“We are excited to support NTPC to co-create a net-zero roadmap for the energy giant of India. I laud NTPC for its commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy sources.”

The roadmap will feature various scenarios that represent NTPC's strategic outlook, assessing investment requirements and pinpointing diversification opportunities.

It will showcase the socio-economic advantages linked to the transition to cleaner energy systems.

NTPC has launched extensive projects, including pilot initiatives for green hydrogen, floating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage technologies.

Founded in 1975, NTPC has been instrumental in supplying power to support India's industrial growth and urban development.

In 2021, it became the first significant utility to pledge to a UN Energy Compact, establishing ambitious goals for renewable energy capacity.

While a considerable part of its installed capacity comes from thermal power stations, NTPC has swiftly expanded its renewable energy portfolio.

The company now accounts for almost a quarter of India's overall electricity generation, solidifying its position in the nation's energy security landscape.

NTPC chairman and managing director Gurdeep Singh stated: “Our aim is to foster responsible, sustainable economic development through an energy strategy that champions energy security, social inclusiveness, environmental stewardship, and growth powered by data, technology and innovation.

“This agreement positions us to meet the rising demand from communities and industry while keeping us at the leading edge of the energy transition.”

In April 2025, Suzlon was awarded a new 378MW wind energy project by NTPC Green Energy.

"NTPC partners with SEforALL to enhance clean energy transition" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
