The New York Knicks began their offseason with a shocking decision as they decided to move on from head coach Tom Thibodeau after their playoff exit.
This was a surprise move by New York as many around the NBA believed that they would run it back next season with Thibodeau manning the sidelines after he helped lead them to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.
Instead, the Knicks felt that it was in their best interest to move on from him this offseason and they now begin a search for the next head coach of the storied franchise.
While many have speculated why the Knicks decided to fire Thibodeau, Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill released a key report regarding their decision on Sunday.
“A couple of players felt like Thibodeau played the starter too many minutes and felt he had an inability to adjust, sources said, and another player said he didn’t feel like he could play for Thibodeau if the coach returned next season,” Goodwin wrote.
It is clear from this report that multiple Knicks players had some concerns regarding Thibodeau’s coaching style and one player even mentioned that he would not be able to play under the head coach next season due to these reasons.
With Goodwin not naming the player, Knicks fans have went to social media to try and guess who made the comments and they are all in agreement on one player in particular, Mikal Bridges.
“Mikal Bridges I think,” one fan commented on X.
“100% Mikal,” another said.
“Def Mikal,” said another fan.
“Mikal only cuz he said something about this before from what I remember,” another fan commented.
It’s clear that Knicks fans believe that the player who made the comments was Bridges, which fits due to Bridges’ ask of Thibodeau to ease up on the playing time of the Knicks’ starters earlier in the season.
Despite this, it could have been any player on the Knicks’ roster that made these comments but fans are all in agreement that it was Bridges who did so due to his prior comments regarding Thibodeau.
