ORWIGSBURG — A five-run explosion for Tri-Valley’s bats in the top of the seventh allowed the Bulldogs to get past Schuylkill Haven 8-3 for the District 11 2A Championship Thursday afternoon at Blue Mountain’s Greenawalt Field.
Braedyn Doyle, a big part of the Bulldogs (19-6) success this season, went 6.2 frames allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out five Hurricanes for the win.
“It’s been one step at a time and now we’re on to states,” said Doyle. “We’re just going to keep taking it one game at a time and our goal is to not lose the rest of the year.”
Tri-Valley advances to the PIAA 2A State Baseball Championship at a day, site and time TBA.

Doyle barely allowed Schuylkill Haven (18-5) to hit it out of the infield as the Hurricanes scored all three of their runs on infield groundouts and an error.
When Tri-Valley’s bats woke up, they really woke up. Gavin Klock and Trea Porter each stepped up with two-run doubles in the seventh for the 8-3 victory.
“That was huge because a one run lead going to the seventh against Schuylkill Haven isn’t going to hold,” said Tri-Valley head coach Brent Smith. “He (Doyle) performed like I expected him too.”
Klock delivered early for the Hurricanes with an RBI groundout fielders choice to the shortstop which brought home Owen Miller for the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, Gavin Wade grounded an RBI to the shortstop which plated Alan Evans to knot the score at 1-1.
“Working with a big lead at the end of the game relieves a lot of stress and when you have a big lead you can be more loose,” said Doyle. “I tried to keep everything low in the zone and it worked.”
Hunter Correll was strong for Schuylkill Haven on the mound, sitting down the Bulldogs in order in the second, third and sixth innings. He went 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Johnnie Fessler smacked an RBI ground ball error to third base which plated Evans for Schuylkill Haven’s 2-1 lead in the third.
The Bulldogs struck for two more in the fifth when Doyle singled to third base to plate Miller. Klock then stepped up and grounded an RBI single to right field to plate Stewart for the 3-2 lead.
“This is one of our goals and we have one more goal we’d like to obtain,” said Smith. “When you can put runs up against Schuylkill Haven, Shenandoah Valley or Minersville every win is huge.”
The Hurricanes added another run to knot it at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Fessler scored on a throwing error by Tri-Valley’s catcher.
Tri-Valley added five runs in the top of the seventh, beginning with a Doyle RBI single to right field for the 4-3 edge. One batter later, Klock doubled to right field to score both Gavin Scheib and Miller for the 6-3 lead.
“You try to score as many as you can and we had more runs than them at the end of the game,” said Smith.
Porter finished off the top of the seventh for Tri-Valley when he unloaded for a two-run double to left field for the 8-3 advantage.
Klock came on to pitch the seventh and allowed two runs to score, a Wade RBI groundout before Wade scored on a passed ball, for the 8-5 final score.
Klock drove in a team-high four runs while Porter plated two more runs. Doyle totaled three hits while Klock had another two hits.
