Francisco Lindor Shares Bold Take on Teammate Pete Alonso

After signing a new contract with the New York Mets last offseason, Pete Alonso is having the best start to a season of his career.

He’s batting .298 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI as well as putting up a .977 OPS. Alonso leads the Mets in all of those categories and his two-run double last night against the Colorado Rockies proved to be crucial.

The team was down 1-0 in the seventh inning when Alonso gave the Mets the lead. Before his hit, New York was 0-8 with runners in scoring position in the contest. Through just six games in June, he’s driven in 14 runs, making him the most dangerous player at the plate in the league right now.

Co-star Francisco Lindor had high praise for the first baseman following last night’s game, mentioning how special of a player he is for the squad.

“Pete has meant a lot,” Lindor said. “Leading the team in batting average, OPS, he’s been tremendous for us. He makes us all better. He’s special. The defensive play he made today, running the bases the right way. He’s turning himself into a well-rounded player. He’s a very special player and we’re glad he’s on our team.”

Lindor is dealing with a broken pinky toe, however, that didn’t stop him from delivering a clutch two-run double himself, with Alonso sliding into home plate for their fourth run of the game, clinching the win.

"I think this is going to be the best year of his career, God willing," Lindor said. "He’s going to keep up doing what he’s doing, I think he’s going to end up with one of the best Mets seasons ever, probably."
