The Connecticut Sun grinded out a back-and-forth game on Friday to defeat the Indiana Fever, 85-83, handing Indiana its third straight loss and Connecticut its first win of the season.
Entering the game, Indiana had dropped back-to-back contests, the latter of which was without star point guard Caitlin Clark.
Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, was sidelined by a left quadriceps strain announced on Monday, a diagnosis that's expected to place her on the shelf for at least two weeks.
Shortly after the game, sports broadcaster Robin Lundberg posted on X, "Caitlin Clark is so clearly the MVP by the meaning of the acronym."
While the MVP race is typically rewarded to season-long excellence, fans are already arguing that Clark's impact is so significant that she could be the most deserving of "Most Valuable Player."
"Caitlin Clark is the greatest level raiser I’ve seen in all of sports, nobody comes close. Just give her the MVP, that’s what most valuable means," said one fan.
"Give Caitlin Clark MVP right now," another commenter replied.
"The strongest Caitlin Clark MVP argument there will be all season," responded another user with a screenshot of Friday's box score.
"Caitlin Clark 2026 WNBA MVP," another fan commented.
"Now you know. CC is truly MVP for Fever. Not only Fever but any team period! She makes everyone plays better.," one other user replied.
"Caitlin Clark’s MVP odds should be going down not up. Fever are hot garbage without her," said another fan.
In 2024, Clark led the WNBA with 8.4 assists per game and averaged 19.2 points and 5.7 rebounds, breaking multiple rookie marks, including most three-pointers (122) and the first triple-double by a rookie in league history.
As a result, she entered the 2025 campaign as a frontrunner for league MVP.
Even before her injury, she was averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game, leading the WNBA in assists and ranking among the league leaders in scoring.
Most importantly, Indiana was winning.
