Amazon is selling a 230-piece Craftsman tool set for a record-low $99 — 50% off

The first thing I got from my parents after buying my first house over a decade ago was a tool set. Specifically, a Craftsman tool set. It wasn't fancy, but it was reliable — and I still use a bunch of those same screwdrivers, pliers, sockets and ratchets today. If you're looking to start (or seriously upgrade) your own set, the Craftsman VersaStack 230-piece Mechanics Tool Set is down 50% to just $99 — the lowest price we've seen. That's a whole lot of metal for the money, and it all comes packed in a modular, stackable case that actually keeps things organized.

You won't have to worry about these tools breaking or getting misplaced. Craftsman is known for its quality, and this set even comes with a rugged case that will keep everything organized.

Why is this a good deal? 💰

Sure, you can go out and buy a tool every time you need it, one by one, or you can go this route and be prepared for everything wrench- and ratchet-related, which, if you're a car or home owner, is a lot of scenarios. I opted for the full set years ago and have more than gotten my money's worth.

Why do I need this? 🤔

This 230-piece set isn't just random bits in a box — it's a fully stocked garage-in-a-case. You get three low-profile ratchets (1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"), 47 standard sockets and 28 deep sockets for when bolts play hard to get. It also includes 21 combination wrenches, 16 bit sockets, three extension bars and both long and short arm hex keys (28 and 16, respectively). Need to handle screws and specialty fasteners? You're covered with a bit driver, a socket-to-bit adapter and 66 specialty bits — basically, everything you need to tighten, loosen and fix just about anything that isn't made of Play-Doh.

This isn't just for car mechanics either. I recently tore apart and upgraded my bike, and these tools were a lifesaver when it came to getting everything put back together. I also used them for upgrading the plumbing and cabinets in my camper, as well as putting together furniture for a bedroom remodel and replacing faucets in my bathroom.

What reviewers say 💬

Weekend warriors everywhere love this tool bundle, which has over 6,600 flawless five-star ratings.

Pros 👍

When I see 230 pieces, the first thing I think isn't portability, but according to this customer, maybe it should be. "I have three major toolboxes with assorted tools; [the] problem is I have to walk to them to get said tools. This very nice assortment of fine tools is now going wherever I go, saving me the footsteps back and forth! This could be kept in your car easily."

"I was a little concerned when I heard that Craftsman tools were no longer made in the U.S., as I love all my older Craftsman stuff," began another five-star reviewer, "but this set is great and I love the storage and trays which have some spare room for other sockets and extensions that I have accumulated over the years. No, it's not a high-end mechanics set, but it's well worth it for the average person looking to work on their cars."

"I love the quality and strength of these tools," said another happy customer. "It has been a major upgrade to what I had before. I love that it doesn't weigh much, so I can throw it on the back of the truck and go. It has slip resistance so it won't slide around, and you can lock the drawers so they won't pop out either. The design stores the three different drive sizes, which is super convenient. It's also modular, so you can add it to your tool case, which is very functional in my case."

Cons 👎

"The ratchets frequently accidentally switch directions on me with just the brush of my palm (especially if gloved)," cautioned a four-star reviewer. "At first I thought this was a fluke, but it has happened on my countless times at least, both with the 1/4- and 3/8-inch rachets."

You have to pull the drawers out all the way to reach some of the tools — a detail that didn’t sit well with this four-star reviewer. "The open-end wrenches can't be removed from the toolbox without first removing the drawer from the box. Not a big deal, but really? I just want to pull the drawer out and get what I want with no hassle."

This kit is portable enough to throw in your trunk or truck bed, so it'll be with you wherever you go.
