'Assistant GM' Aaron Rodgers Likely To Push For WR Trade as Rumors Swirl

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a QB and he may need a new wide receiver before the start of the 2025 regular season.

One thing we learned from Aaron Rodgers' two years with the New York Jets: He was allowed a great deal of authority when it came to voicing his opinion about personnel.

If he wanted the Jets to sign a buddy of his? The "unofficial assistant GM'' of the team had his voice heard.

So, what about now?

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded away star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason, so the team could be looking to make a move for a receiver to fill his place. ... especially of the newly-signed Rodgers has anything to say about it.

One obvious rumor centers on Allen Lazard, Rodgers' Green Bay Packers pal who he brought with him to the Jets.

Another? How about a deal for wide receiver Romeo Doubs, also from Green Bay?

The Steelers could be a potential suitor if only because the Packers seem to have an excess of solid guys here.

Meanwhile, the Steelers finally have their starting quarterback after Rodgers has come aboard, so maybe they are looking to give him more weapons for the 2025 season.

They already traded with Seattle for DK Metcalf, of course.

Do they need more?

Doubs finished the 2024 season with 601 yards and four touchdowns, which is not too bad considering he started in just 12 games. The Packers selected Texas receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, which means they have their fair share of young wideouts.

And Doubs may be expendable.

If the Packers decide they want to trade the 25-year-old receiver, the Steelers may be one of the teams who might make a few calls to try and acquire him.

Does Rodgers' opinion matter? We may be about to find out.
