May I be frank? Our favorite purchases from last month May be the best ones yet. (I'll stop now.) (Amazon/Athleta/Sephora)
If you, like me, stop whatever you're doing to watch a "What's In My Bag" video when it shows up in your social media feed, you've come to the right place. No, I won't be spilling the contents of my very messy tote (it would be 90% crumpled receipts), but I did ask our team of Yahoo shopping editors to dish about their best purchases from last month. Vicarious retail therapy for the win! As retail experts, it takes a lot for a product to really impress us, but these 15 finds did the trick. From a hydrating tinted lip balm to keep those puckers moisturized all summer to the portable clothing steam iron even Oprah approves of for on-the-go smoothing, our picks are fun, functional and, in our humble opinions, first rate.
"There’s a time and a place for my beloved Lululemon belt bag, but my recent trip to Iceland wasn’t one of them. I needed something a bit larger with an exterior zipper pocket that could open fully without the fear of something spilling out (my main gripe with my Lululemon one!). I decided to give Athleta’s version a try, and I see why it's racked up hundreds of five-star reviews. I wore it chasing waterfalls (it’s water-repellent!), exploring city sights, hiking volcanoes and walking on glaciers. I was able to stash all of my valuables in the main compartment — my wallet, phone, hotel room key and even my boyfriend's and my passports — and keep hair ties, hand sanitizer and lip balm in the front pocket for easy access. Oh, and it's on sale for just $33 — that's $5 less than you know who's!" -Amanda Garrity, Gifting Editor
"I have a confession to make: I have yet to jump aboard the AirPods train. I'm sure our tech editors will roll their eyes at this, but I'm a wired earbuds gal through and through. I was due for a replacement pair last month, and I always get the most bang for my buck with Apple. I can usually get a year (or more) of use out of them, and they never sound crackly until they've reached the end of their rope. Oh, and they're a fraction of the price of their cordless counterparts, so I won't be devastated if one meets its demise on the subway tracks. Oh, wait, that won't happen because they're CONNECTED to my phone!" -Britt Ross, Senior Deals Writer
"I own no fewer than four Yeti coolers. Don't get me wrong, they're great, but when it comes to road-tripping, I hate dealing with melting ice. So before my latest camping trip, I snagged this portable fridge, which costs less than a comparable-sized Yeti (even one that is currently on sale). I pre-cooled it in the garage for a day before my trip, plugged it right into the 12V outlet on my car once we were packed up and used my camper hookups to keep it powered while we were at the campsite. No ice, no leaking, just an easy-to-use fridge." -Chris McGraw, Senior Deals Writer
"I gave my makeup bag a complete overhaul ahead of summer, and the one product I'm most obsessed with right now is this Nars tinted lip balm. It delivers major hydration — which my lips need during the summer months — but it also gives a gorgeous wash of rosy red color to instantly give my whole face a boost. It's designed for the lips, but I sometimes use it on my cheeks as a blush too. At $28, I fully admit it's expensive, but I've used it every single day since I've purchased it and my lips always feel soft. Bonus: Unlike a true lipstick that requires a precise application, I can apply this balm on the go without a mirror and it always looks just perfect." -Jeanine Edwards, Director, Commerce Initiatives
"I am not a morning person. Getting out of bed is 1000% the hardest thing I have to do every day. I've been trying to find ways to make the whole waking up/getting ready process slightly less miserable, and this By Rosie Jane body wash has worked wonders. Yes, it does a stellar job cleaning my skin, but more importantly, it smells fresh and invigorating — just what I need to get me going in the a.m. when all I really want is to get back in bed. And because aesthetics are important, I love the dark brown bottle that looks like cool apothecary glass, but is actually plastic." -Jeanine Edwards, Director, Commerce Initiatives
"After I turned 40 (I won't say how long ago that was), I noticed my skin was looking dull and tired, and I was developing little bumps on my forehead and chin. I'm one of those lucky people who had nary a zit in high school, so this change has felt jarring and frankly, confusing. My old nearly non-existent cleansing-and-moisturizing routine clearly wasn't cutting it anymore, so I started looking into what I could do, and a beauty-editor friend suggested this vitamin C serum. I didn't pull the trigger on buying it, though, until I saw that Yahoo's resident beauty pro, Jennifer Romolini, ALSO vouched for it in her story on the best vitamin C serums. To my surprise and joy, I really do see a difference when I use this. My skin is brighter, more even and glowier." -Jessica Dodell-Feder, Senior Home & Garden Editor
"I know linen is a go-to summer fabric for many, but I'm stubbornly iron-averse. I am, however, a sucker for a lantern pant. Made of a poly-cotton knit blend, these tick all my boxes for go-to bottoms: soft, comfy and relaxed with deep pockets and an above-ankle inseam. The lantern hem gives these an 'elevated sweatpants' vibe that I love. I can slouch around the house in them or dress them up to wear out. I got them in red and it's a lovely deep crimson. I've also ordered a second pair in green and might pick up a couple other colors in June (I'm one of those). One note: They do run quite big and slouchy, so if that's not your jam, try sizing down." -Kris Scott, Commerce Editor
"I started off my spring by making good on a long-held desire to have a pollinator garden. Built a retaining wall, added a dozen-plus plants that attract bees, hummingbirds and butterflies, and finished it off with some mulch and a few accessories — bee house, wind chime, birdbath, etc. But the thing that really brought it all together is these solar lights. They add interest in the daylight, but at night they make the garden feel magical. On more than one evening this month, I've poured a glass of something and sat by the space just to watch the sun go down and wait for these babies to turn on. If you're a sucker for mood lighting too, these bring the ambience, plus they're weatherproof and the solar-charging works perfectly." -Kris Scott, Commerce Editor
"I was on the hunt for a new foundation for the spring/summer months — something light and dewy, but that still offered a good amount of coverage — and this new tinted moisturizer from Jones Road proved just the solution. It glides on and blends easily, and it's breathable so I don’t find myself sweating. And I like how the ingredients are clean and cruelty-free! As its name would suggest, I’ve found it to be 'just enough' for impromptu Zoom calls and errand runs, and buildable enough for nights when I want to turn things up a bit. What else? The tube is easy to use on the go and the cap fits snugly, so I don’t worry about this getting all over my purse or tote when in transit. Depending on what you’re going for, I’ve found that a little dab will typically do the trick, so you should get a good run for the money (though either way, I’d say it’s a solid investment!)." -Kristin Granero, Senior Commerce Writer
"On busy mornings, I don’t have time to wrestle with an ironing board. After getting fed up with my old leaky handheld steamer, I finally decided to buy the viral Nori steamer iron — and so far, it's been a game-changer. It’s incredibly intuitive to use, heats up fast and best of all, it makes quick touch-ups effortless. Now I can smooth out wrinkles in minutes and get out the door fast." -Lauren Matthews-Ide, Director, Evergreen Commerce
(P.S. It also graced Oprah's Favorite Things 2022 list.)
"This is the first year both my kids are headed to sleepaway camp (woohoo!), which means labeling every.single.thing — times two! Besides loving the name Mabel's Labels, I absolutely adore their personalized sleepaway camp set. It contains 100+ labels of various sizes and shapes — somehow magically dishwasher- and laundry-safe — and the designs are SO CUTE. Now we have thin stick-on labels for clothes and fishing poles (yup), big round dots for sneakers and Crocs, chunky rectangles for toileteries and water bottles, plus two bag tags. I had my kids pick out the designs — one chose sea turtles and the other got pine trees. Both are bright and cheery, and will surely make packing up (before camp and after) less chaotic!" -Nicole Sforza, Executive Editor
"I'm super late to the packing-cube party and I'm so disappointed in myself — all this time I could have been organized before and after my trips! I have yet to use these on a big adventure, but I used a few on a quick weekend jaunt in which I only had a backpack with me. These babies let me unzip my backpack in the middle of the airport without all my unmentionables dribbling out. Once I got to my destination and had some dirty clothes, they went in a cube separate from the clean ones — who knew laundry on the go could be so orderly? Not even the TSA could mess up my tidy bag." -Rachel Roszmann, Weekend Editor
"After learning that Jennifer Aniston owns multiple pairs of these flip-flops I knew I had to give them a try for myself and am so glad I did! While they may look like your classic, run-of-the-mill rubber flops, they actually have an orthotic design that makes them therapeutic for your feet. The foam material molds to your foot's unique shape, while the built-in arch support holds it in a comfortable position and the elevated heel reduces pressure. I've been wearing them non-stop since getting them and now want to grab them in another color." -Rebecca Carhart, Senior Style Writer

"If you think you have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good smartwatch, think again. Amazfit's latest straps a ton of useful features to your wrist, all for just $80. You get heart-rate monitoring, exercise tracking, sleep data, phone notifications and plenty more, plus a battery that's good for at least a week. It's a looker too, with a big, bright display wrapped in aluminum, not plastic. This might be one of the greatest tech values of all time. Seriously." -Rick Broida, Senior Tech Writer

"I purchased my tween and teen nieces the viral Unbrush for the holidays without really knowing much about it (it was on their list along with other TikTok beauty favorites from Drunk Elephant and Laneige). They kept raving about it, so I decided to get one for myself — and boy, am I glad I did. I've bought so many detangling brushes over the years, but have never been super impressed. This hair tool, though, is amazing. It easily combs through wet hair and I've noticed less breakage and hair falling out. It's like magic! Oh, and it comes in fun, sparkly colors too — I got the sapphire blue." -Rory Halperin, Senior Commerce Editor, Branded Content
